Hey, everyone. I've been doing some thinking lately about the various major, ongoing multi-author story-arcs in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (both the new EU and Legends) - not unrelated to the fact that the current such story-arc, the High Republic, is drawing to a close soon - and it got me thinking about something I might want to do on here, namely a reread/revisiting of the Legacy Era novels from Legends, which I, overall, quite strongly dislike. I thought it might be worth looking back on them now, twenty years since that era kicked off with the Dark Nest Trilogy, and seeing if they're really as bad as I remember and if there's anything of value to be salvaged here. Notably, when these novels started coming out, I was following the EU religiously; the Legacy Era (for these purposes, I'm defining it as the Dark Nest Trilogy, the Legacy of the Force series, the Fate of the Jedi series, and the standalone novel Crucible, which I think form a broad storyline running from 2005-2013 IRL) followed up on the first major multi-author saga, the New Jedi Order; the NJO was itself controversial in its day, but said controversy seems to have largely died down over the years, and my own feelings towards it are mixed-to-positive, with some elements and individual books I genuinely love (I wrote a recap of my feelings on the NJO a couple of years ago on the Force.net forums; I could repost it here if anyone's interested). But the Legacy Era was a bitter disappointment to me, for various reasons, some personal, some shared by the fandom at large, whose reaction to these novels tended, in my experience, to be strongly negative.

This would not be a sporking as such (sure, I did PKH and reviewed Embers, but this is, at minimum, twenty-two full-length novels - I'm not doing a chapter-by-chapter sporking of that!) but probably something like giving a post to each individual novel and then a recap of what I thought of its individual sub-series at the end. Because of this, I'd probably not post it over on Das Sporking. Would anyone here be interested in taking a trip with me down memory lane as I look back on an era of one of my favorite fandoms that I'd tried my best to forget and try to analyze just why I had such a strong reaction against it... and maybe see if it has any redeeming qualities after all? If you'd be intrigued by this, do let me know! Thank you!
